Sims 3 Expansion Packs not installing through Origin

Only applicable to the 32-bit version of Sims 3

A current issue which seems to be cropping up more frequently is users trying to download and install a Sims 3 Expansion Pack through Origin but cannot because Origin thinks it is already installed. No idea why this is happening but one solution may be to create a second administrator account on your Mac. This has worked for a user over at AHQ. To clarify:

  1. Create a second user account on your Mac by going to System Preferences > Users & Groups. Click on the lock to make changes, enter your password then click on the + below the list of current users. Follow the prompts to create a new Administrator account (not a Standard account).
  2. Log out of your account and into the new account you have created. Download and install your EPs.
  3. Log out of the new user account you created and back into your usual account. You should now be able to play the game with your Expansion Packs.

  1. Hi! Hope you can help – Im using Origin to download my games since I’m a 2015 MAC user. Anyway, I have successfully redeemed, downloaded and installed my sims3 and EPs (Generations, University Life, and Island Life) except for Ambitions. When I have installed Ambitions, the game wouldn’t load and it only says “unknown error”. But when I install everything except Ambitions, it works. I’m using patch 1.67. I have already tried clean uninstalling and installing several times but to no avail. Help!

      1. I have a 2012 Mac and those are the two that will not install. No problem with the base game though. I also tried the creating a new admin method – didn’t change anything unfortunetaly.
