The Sims 4 – Cottage Living
22 July 2021
(Metal compatible Macs only, not available for Legacy Edition)

EP11 Cottage Living copy

There is a big difference between the minimum requirements and recommended requirements for the Sims 4. If your game meets the minimum requirements then you should be able to play but may need to keep all in-game graphic settings on low. Bear in mind too that when EA state the requirements for Game/Stuff/Expansion Packs they are only basing this on the Pack and the base game, they do not factor in any additional Packs already installed. The more Packs you have installed, the more demands on your machine.

OS: Metal required*. Mac OS® X 10.11 (El Capitan)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz Processor or better
RAM: At least 4 GB RAM
HARD DRIVE: At least 3 GB of free space (15 GB if installing with The Sims™ 4) with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content and saved games
VIDEO: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680, AMD Radeon RX 560 or better
INPUT: Keyboard and Mouse
ONLINE REQUIREMENTS: Internet connection required for product activation.

OS: Mac OS® X 10.11 or later*
PROCESSOR: Intel Core i5 or better
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680, AMD Radeon RX 560 or better
HARD DRIVE: 18 GB of Hard Drive space

*If your Mac is a 2011 or earlier model it is not Metal compatible (earlier Mac Pro models can run the current version of the game with updated, Metal compatible GPUs). You will need to run the Legacy Edition of the game

  1. Hello! Your name appears everywhere when researching playing Sims 4 on Macs. 🙂

I’m currently playing The Sims 4 (incl. all DLC) on a 2015 Apple MacBook Pro with Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM, 13.3″. It’s running on reduced settings, but laptop gets very hot/struggles.

I’ve just bitten the bullet and ordered one of the new 2021 MacBook Pros. I’d love to hear your thoughts on how The Sims might run on these new machines!

I’ve gone for a 16” M1 Pro with 10-core CPU/16-core GPU/16-core Neural Engine and 32GB unified memory. Do you think I’ll see a significant improvement in performance?

It would be good to know whether I can expect the game to run really well for a couple of years to come at least. Thank you!
