Having to Force Quit The Sims 4 in macOS Ventura

This issue is fixed in the 31 January 2023 patch 1.95.207.1230

Since updating to macOS Ventura, users with Intel equipped Macs are no longer able to quit their game. The only way to close it is to select Force Quit from the Apple menu. If this is happening to you NEVER choose Save & Exit as you risk corrupting your save. Instead select Save from the in-game menu then click Exit Game. Now choose Force Quit from the Apple menu and select The Sims 4 then confirm you want to force quit. This will close the game.

There may be a risk of corrupting your install by closing the game this way but it shouldn’t affect your saves. A repair in Origin should fix any corrupted game files.

This is not affecting players on Apple Silicon Macs. If you are experiencing a quitting issue with the game it is for a different reason.

The Sims 4 Legacy Edition – no longer available from 12.12.22

EA have today announced that from the 12 December, the Legacy Edition of the Sims 4 will no longer be available to download. If you want to download the Sims 4 and have a non-Metal Mac, you won’t be able to. Your only option will be to purchase a Metal supported Mac to play the current version of the game on.

Note – the current EA announcement does not correctly explain what the Metal requirements are for Mac. For clarification, a Mac needs a Metal supported graphics card/chip AND to be running macOS 10.11.6 El Capitan or later. It is not enough to just update the operating system. Hopefully this will be corrected at some point on their website.

What a treat!

June 2022 patch, 1.89.214.1230:

Major fixes for those with Intel 16″ MacBook Pros. The crashing, freezing, restarting and horrendous spiky graphics were finally fixed.

July 2022 patch, 1.90.358.1230

Annoying graphical issues with shadow lines and artifacting on Macs with AMD GPUs or Apple Silicon were fixed
The severe system lag when trying to switch between apps with the game loaded was fixed
