No longer supporting Sims 3

The time has come for me to stop trying to help Mac users attempting to play Sims 3. The game came out in June 2009 and hasn’t been updated at all since January 2014. That means that no version of macOS since OS X 10.9 Mavericks, probably 10.8 Mountain Lion would be more accurate, is supported  so there is no guarantee it will work. This is also true for all Macs released since 2013 as the hardware will not be supported.

There are fixes you can try and if anything miraculous comes to light then I will update my pages. These workarounds still work for some:

To be honest, I’m growing weary of users posting the same issues over and over again and expecting a magic fix when there simply isn’t one. EA have been silent over the Sims 3 for years now, they’ve moved on. It’s disappointing that the game had such a short shelf life for us Mac users but it never worked well right from the beginning due to EA’s decision to use Cider.

If Sims 3 works for you great, count yourself lucky. If Sims 3 doesn’t work then maybe it’s time to move on and accept that you will not be able to play.

Disable Origin in-game

Running macOS Mojave? Updated security settings in the operating system no longer permit Origin in-game to run. If you want to have it enabled please read this update – https://bluebellflora.com/2018/09/22/disabling-origin-in-game-is-the-way-forward/

Having Origin enabled in-game has always caused issues on Macs. As well as causing lagging issues it can also cause your game to not load, something which seems to be becoming more frequent amongst players. So the best thing to do is just disable it. Unfortunately you will have to do this after each Origin update as it annoyingly enables itself each time.

  1. Open Origin then click on Origin > Preferences in the menu bar
  2. Click on Origin in-game on the right side
  3. If Origin is enabled in-game the button will show green. Click on it to turn it off so it looks like the picture above.
  4. Right click on the game in your Games Library and select Game Properties. Uncheck the box next to Enable Origin In Game for The Sims 4.

Sims 4 Studio Candy Apple update 1.2.0.5

Sims4Studio have updated their Mac version so we can now batch fix the CC that broke after the 12th December patch. It’s still painfully slow to use but gets the job done.

If you use CC then download and install this to fix the objects that were broken. It’s quicker than downloading any updated CC from the creators.
