64-bit Sims 4 coming to a PC near you. This is more important than toddlers people.

Yep, in the December patch all you Windows users on supported machines will be able to finally play The Sims 4 in shiny new 64-bit. This means that when you’re playing in your heavily populated town which has mega mansions on all lots and families of at least 55 people living in each bedroom, your game shouldn’t, in theory, crash.

If you currently only have 4GB RAM in your 64 bit PC, now is the time to upgrade as you really won’t notice a difference otherwise.

This is way more important than toddlers. You want to know why? Because as the years go on and EA release more Expansion, Game and Stuff Packs and you download them eagerly, your game will gradually slow down and buckle under all the memory needed for all your little Simmies to fly to the moon, have a poo, go swimming, woohoo in the garden etc. etc. But with access to more RAM, your game will fly.

In other breaking news, EA have announced that the patch will also include an update which automatically disables Mods when the game updates. That will be helpful to all you stupid people who never move your Mods out before updating then wonder why your game doesn’t work. Yes, I’m also stupid as I sometimes forget to move them out too 😀

University Life “not yet released” since Origin update

I’m not sure if this is a Mac specific issue so I’m just throwing it out there.

If you are trying to download University Life for the Sims 3 but can’t because Origin is telling you  it hasn’t yet been released, please post in this thread over at EA’s Answers HQ. It seems to be an issue with the latest update – 9.10.2.4863 – 398079.

It doesn’t seem to be operating system related. but the more info EA get the better so they can (hopefully) fix it.

PC users get a Sims 3 update, nothing for Mac users

Oh look, a new update for The Sims 3, how exciting! Oh wait, it’s only for Windows users and introduces a new Expansion and Stuff Pack Manager.

Mac users on most post 2013 Macs cannot play the game due to their graphics cards being unsupported. This is well known among Mac players and EA are aware of it. It is posted about on a daily basis on the official games forum and AHQ. People are still buying the game as according to the system requirements it will be fully compatible on their Mac, but it isn’t. If you have no idea what I’m talking about just read my page here.

Here’s what I think. I think that EA are no longer using the 3rd party they used for the Cider wrapping of the game so there is no one at EA who actually knows how to patch it. They’re hoping that over time Mac users will just stop moaning and buy Sims 4 or disappear altogether. Well, it’s been two years now and people are still buying the game, only to find out that it is not compatible on their new Mac. I know this because I am replying to their posts on the forums, daily.

Prove me wrong EA, go that extra mile and actually help your Mac user base rather than hope we all crawl away, never to come back (or buy Windows machines instead). While you’re at it, how about releasing that patch for Sims 4 which has rendered the game unplayable for those with NVIDIA 512MB GPUs on OS X El Capitan? You know, the one that will have taken you over two months to fix. Yep, that’s another massive group of Mac users who aren’t able to play the game they paid EA for.

At least Sims 4 is 64 bit in OS X though. They did something right.
